Creating a work of fiction isn't all imagination. Turning those ideas and rough words into a saleable manuscript is a process that involves a collection of support people, some of whom don't even know how vital they are. These people impart life, wisdom, inspire me, provide moral support, participate in brainstorming sessions over a cuppa, and encouraged me to never give up.
First and foremost, I have to thank my family. My beautiful sons keep me on my toes with endless questions, even if they haven't quite grasped why anyone would want to read a book without pictures. My husband is my sounding board for new ideas and does his best to come up with fresh twists when I hit a brain-block. Of course, I wait until we’re walking the dog, so I have a captive audience. He is patient when I test out fight moves on him and tries not to freak when I'm researching the best way to kill someone. Most of all, his belief in me is unshakable and that sustains me when I've reach a point when the words are overwhelming.
My literary friends (including members of the Novelist’s Circle, Seaside Writers, Eyre Writers, South Australian Romance Association and Romance Writers of Australia) keep me motivated and provide honest critiques. All the technical experts who have helped me seek information along the way. They mightn’t think of themselves as experts, but each have information that is specific to the job, hobby or life they live and it's something I don't know about.
Other inspirations include the wonderful authors whose books I’ve read and enjoyed and learnt from, as well as music that has nourished my soul.
