What will we do during the sessions?
Coaching sessions are customised to your needs with the purpose of improving your manuscript and story craft. (An added bonus is a boost to your confidence as the way forward becomes clear.)
Here's what we can work on (depending on what you need):
Here's what we can work on (depending on what you need):
- You talk me through your story and what you are trying to achieve, so I can identify areas for improvement and come up with a plan to get it finished.
- Check that the main characters have well-developed emotional arcs, which are relevant to the external plot.
- Ensure you're making the most of conflicts and there's enough at stake to make the situation urgent.
- Identify key conflict points in the story and where they occur.
- Review the chapter/scene list to ensure it's cohesive.
- Do live editing, i.e. read a scene together and talk through areas for improvement. This will look at every aspect of your writing style, technique and sentence composition.
- Hold your hand while you write (or fix) a manuscript.
- Work on specific writing techniques that are giving you trouble, e.g. showing vs telling, deep point of view.
- Develop a query pack, i.e. an elevator pitch, synopsis and query letter.
Why do I need to book a call first?
It's important to be sure we are a good fit to work together, so I can bring out the best in you and your story. That's why I offer complimentary storytelling clarity sessions to talk through your goals and struggles, and make sure we are aligned. After all, I want you to be 100% comfortable that you are going to get awesome value from our time together.
