Sandy's Facebook Group

A place where female fiction writers who want to finish contemporary novels the Big 5 traditional publishers can't resist, gather.

Who is the group for?

This group suits female fiction writers who are writing a novel set in contemporary times.

  • Nurturing environment for English speaking (and writing) authors around the globe.
  • Packed full of free resources, writing tips and inspiring authors.
  • Free events like virtual writing hours, Q&A sessions and trainings.
  • Motivation to continue on the sometimes lonely path of writing.
  • Caters for all authors from beginners to those with published books under their belt.

We are a friendly group that brings like-minded souls together in a non-threatening environment, so they can pursue a love of words and characters.

In the group we:
  • Celebrate our wins (no matter how small).
  • Help one another solve writing problems.
  • Share writing tips and industry information.
  • Motivate and support one another.

How the Group Started

When I made a commitment to write my first novel, I explored various literary groups, but struggled to meet other people who were writing full-length novels. Novel writing is different to other types of writing, and comes with its own challenges.

I wanted to connect with other people going through similar trials. I managed to do this during literary workshops and festival, and
it was uplifting. I drew strength from the different points of view I experienced, and found lots of generous authors willing to share information. But there was no specific place where I could connect with these people regularly. So, I decided to start my own Adelaide-based critiquing group called The Novelists' Circle in 2010.

The face-to-face group
is still going strong after all these years, infact, there was so much demand that there are now two groups running in Adelaide.

Transition to Online

Naturally, I wanted to share the benefits of this little community with people who couldn't physically attend meetings in Adelaide, and so the Facebook group was born.

The online group has grown over the years and is now a bustling
community of motivated authors.

Success Stories

After one-and-a-half decades, Sandy Vaile's communities have produced many published authors; some with the Big 5 traditional publishing houses, others with smaller publishers, and still others who have chosen to take the self-publishing route.

Testimonials

In five months with the group, I learned more about writing than I did in five years of high school English classes.
Ben Tanny
There is no better way to learn than by offering and receiving friendly criticism. In observing what I would like changed in the writing of others, I have come to see the same habits in my own offerings.
Steve Davey
It would have taken me a lot longer to get published if I hadn't joined the Novelists' Circle.
Carla Caruso
This group gives me the support and motivation I need to keep going with this sometimes lonely pursuit. The diversity of feedback is invaluable to my stories.
