Cathleen Ross generously shares her secrets and sales figures for indie publishing. (Click the link above.)
It's a fascinating read about the pros and cons of offering your books free as part of a marketing strategy, and timing for maximum effect.
Of course, Cathleen also recognises how essential it is to have your book professionally edited. Make your book stand out with a professional approach.
Keep your eye on this spot. In the next couple of weeks I'll be hosting the lovely Helene Young in the midst of her latest book tour for 'Half Moon Bay', and Annie Seaton talking about her latest release 'Italian Affair' (which I was lucky enough to read before its release: see my review on Good Reads).
One of my friends, Lillian Grant, who just happens to be a comedic erotic romance writer, just interviewed a real life stripper. If you want to read all about Justin Whitfield's exploits, then don't miss this blog. Did I mention there's a photo?
My Christmas gift to you. Enjoy!
I attended the Salisbury Writer's Festival for the third time and wasn't disappointed. There were plenty of industry professional on hand to impart their wisdom, workshops and it was superbly organised, as always. A particular highlight was hearing one of my favourite authors, Fiona McIntosh, speak and attending her latest book launch.
I can attest to this event being a great place to network. Not only did I meet two valuable literary contact (now friends) the first year, I continue to chat and hand out business cards to other wonderful South Australian authors.
Adelaide Writer's Week was a busy event with a plethora of wonderful speakers offering something for everyone's tastes. My favourites were Gary Disher (SA born crime writer) and Michael Crummey (Newfoundland) read the 1st page of his book, which inspired me to buy it! The panel of publishers eminated fascinating information about how eBooks are changing our marketplace, and it wasn't all doom and gloom.
I'm currently doing an online course with Susan Meier, so look out for my next post about how I enjoyed it.
